46-er List History:
Loretta Yerke, who is a long term member of our chapter and former ADK Newsletter editor, made up a list of all our chapter 46ers in 2008. Wilma Cipolla and Loretta thought we should update the list to include all of the new 46ers since then. Former Chapter Chair, Cheryl Peluso, updated the 46er list up until 7/13/13. To have your name added to the list, please contact David Kowalski at dfk2008@gmail.com

Aspiring 46ers

SUGGESTIONS FOR ASPIRING 46ers:

    • Purchase ADK’s “High Peaks Trails” Book and accompanying “Trails of the Adirondack High Peaks” Topographical Map. The book describes trailhead locations and trail details for each peak. The map reveals accurate mileages, and critical trail junctions that need to be studied before a hike. These items can be purchased online (click links, above) or at stores in the Adirondacks like The Mountaineer in Keene Valley. National Geographic also provides excellent maps for the entire Adirondack Park.
    • Talk to other 46ers and Aspiring 46ers. Meet them at ADK-NFC Monthly Meetings and on Outings.
    • ADK staff-led climbs up High Peaks advertised in Adirondac Magazine are a fun, safe way to meet new people and learn basic skills. Education is the key to enjoyment and safety.
    • The Facebook Page called “Adirondack Backcountry Hikers” is another helpful resource. Hikers often find hiking partners here and learn valuable tips about stream crossings and summit conditions. Also, the Niagara Frontier Chapter Facebook page is another opportunity to identify aspiring 46ers looking for travel companions and hiking partners.
    • Adirondack High Peaks Forums is a useful online resource. It posts trip reports about specific mountains, including pictures. You can ask questions and have them answered here.
