Outing Report – Bicycle – Amherst Bike Path to Tonawanda’s Isle View Park

After hearing that the forecast called for no rain until 3PM, ten members biked under cloudy skies from Amherst to the Tonawandas. We began along the Amherst Bike Trail where we saw a five wild turkeys along the side of the trail. At Niagara Falls Boulevard we crossed into Ellicott Creek Park. No turkeys here, just lots of Canada geese. Leaving the park we traveled on the only roadway portion of the ride, about a 1.5 mile stretch on Creekside Drive. We eventually came to a trail along the canal and proceeded to the Tonawandas, where Canal Fest was just getting underway for the day. After carefully picking our way through the thickening crowd and walking among the food vendors we rejoined the trail down to Niawanda Park where we enjoyed lunch while admiring our beautiful river. The return trip was uneventful, save for the siting of a fawn along the Amherst Bike Path. And we did manage to avoid the rain. Submitter by Carolyn Kerr
