On Saturday, a comfortably warm last day of July, Paul Kochmanski lead a group of 15 cyclists on a scenic, historic international ride from Front Park near D’Youville College in the City of Buffalo, across the Peace Bridge, to Abino Bay, Ontario, Canada, and the summer home of ADK-member Tom Dixon. Round trip was approximately 26 miles, mostly along well-maintained bike paths and residential neighborhoods, including a rails-to-trails route. Some of the many highlights included:
A panoramic view of the City of Buffalo and the Niagara River from the top of the Peace Bridge; Fort Erie, both the town and the old fort; Waverly Beach area with an amazing view of the Buffalo skyline; A small farmers’ market near Ridgeway, Ontario, featuring fresh-picked fruits and veggies, and delicious homemade baked goods; Appetizers, drinks, and a cook-out (lunch) prepared by our host, Tom Dixon; A peaceful view of Crystal Beach and Abino Bay from Tom’s deck, and colorful sailboat races between Buffalo and Point Abino. We also had an Optional swim in Lake Erie (I think Mike was the only brave soul!), and a personal tour of the Buffalo Yacht Club property: a beautifully remodeled club-house and large, well-equipped marina.
Special thanks to Paul Kochmanski and Tom Dixon for a most memorable Saturday! Submitted by: Donna Kain
