Fourteen of our members went to our club’s Adirondak Loj for a winter weekend in the high peak region. For most of us it was a first time experience to be in the Adirondacks in winter and we were not sure what to expect! The weather report forcasted all day rains. Holy cow! Were we all dreading that. But in true ADK spirit we drove with fingers crossed and high hopes. Across the state there appeared to be little to no snow! OMG! What were we going to do? Never fear. When we arrived there was plenty of snow, the sun was shining and the clouds were clearing. How awesome. Over the next 3 days our group snowshoed, XC skied, laughed, slept, and explored Lake Placid. We had blue skies, sunshine and relatively warm temps 2 of the days! !!! The third day was cloudy and chilly but no rain! Just goes to show that you can listen to the weather but it is not set in stone. The snow conditions were wet and slick, yet our group enjoyed their time out. This writer will never forgetting stepping off the trampled snow to be hip deep in soft snow and stuck. Yikes! The views were spectacular. No one will forget the campfire talk about the stars by Matt, the club’s naturalist. One person in our group took the thrilling bobsled ride at the Olympic complex. Wow! What a high! We would encourage all members to try out a winter trip next year to the Adirondacks.
