On this calm, cooler evening our merry group of newcomers and regulars enjoyed a delightful hike through the woods. There was much conversation, huffing and puffing on hills and some sighs as we enjoyed the beauty. We reveled in the ethereal, flutelike song of the veery with notes that spiral downward; stopped to notice the tiny little flowers of the partridge berry; and investigated the lemony smell of the leaves from the sassafras tree. We are so lucky to have such a nice hiking place nearby.
